As we all know, cactus is a very drought-tolerant plant, so it is not a problem to not water it for half a year. But there are still many friends who have killed their cactus. The problem is still in the watering. Watering is the key to keeping a good cactus, and there is a lot to be said for it. Here's how to water a cactus and what to look out for.

I. How much water to water the cactus

In the summer, the weather is hot, high temperature and drought, the cactus will enter a dormant state, at this time watering more water is useless, the cactus will not absorb, but will rot the roots. So in summer, you should water less, just keep the soil hydrated. In winter, when it is cold and below 5°C, you should slowly start to cut off water and resume watering next spring. In spring, you can water the whole pot thoroughly, but there should not be any stagnant water in it, so that it can grow fully. In the fall, when the weather is dry and the soil dries out quickly, you can water it thoroughly once every 10 days and a half months.

II. How often to water the cactus

Although cactus are good to keep and do not need too much water, it does not mean that they do not need water. Some people don't remember to water their cactus after they buy them, but the cactus will still be alive but will not look good. So the correct watering frequency is about once in 20 days, or if the potting soil dries out faster, you can shorten the time to once in 10~15 days.

III. What kind of water to water the cactus ball

There is no requirement for watering the cactus ball, usually ordinary tap water can meet its growing conditions. However, it is best to leave the tap water for 1-2 days before using it. If it is convenient, you can accumulate rainwater for watering, which can make it grow beautifully.

IV. Why do some cacti die when watered?

1. The water is hot and boiled to death

Never choose to water your cactus at high temperature in the middle of the day, especially when the temperature exceeds 30℃. It will make the water evaporate quickly, forming the phenomenon of boiling the roots, and the cactus will die naturally.

2. Drowning of weak roots

The roots of the cactus that you just bought and potted, or the ones that you just changed, or the ones that you just successfully propagated from cuttings, are still very weak, and they cannot withstand the tossing and turning. In this case, you have to wait 2 weeks to make sure that the roots grow well before you start watering.

3. water flooding death

Cactus does not need too much watering too often, because its root system is thin and many, more suitable for survival in a dry environment. If you water too much too often, the root system can not absorb water, it will remain water in the pot, too much water is easy to breed bacteria, root rot, bacteria from the rotten wound invasion, will cause cactus death.

4. Water freezing death

The exact opposite of water heat, watering in the cold season, because the low temperature caused root frostbite freezing death. So remember to slowly cut off water to the cactus when the temperature is below 5°C, otherwise the water will freeze in the soil and the cactus will freeze to death.

These are the methods and precautions for watering the cactus, I hope they can help you.
